Foul weather friends

Captain Almais Lansing, adorned with her semi-formal hat and coat, strode purposefully through the rain. She paid no heed to the mud that gathered on her sturdy boots. She would deal with it later.

The water rose ever higher, but the floods hadn't come just yet. It was only a matter of time before a river bank collapsed somewhere, and so she planned to be quick about it.

The meetinghouse was her destination. She'd missed the most recent meeting of course, not having been announced, but she still wanted an opportunity to attend one, and so she would not let another pass her by through inaction.

As she stepped beneath the eaves and out of the rain, she shook off her tricorner hat and brushed droplets from her coat. Supposedly, the governor lived here. Even if he didn't, there would probably be a place where she could leave her letter. So, she started for the door. She imagined the place would be guarded if it really was the governor's residence. She'd venture as far as she could into the building until she either met a guard or found the governor.
