Brotherly Love

Brotherly Love

Postby Glenn » Wed Nov 21, 2012 10:12 am

This was Plan B. Plan A involved sending Mary Ford to talk to something that went bump in the night. She was intercepted. The request never reached the long, wolven ears of the 'lady' it was meant for. Plan B it was, then.

Kals,

We both love Rhaena. I'd like to try to give things another try. A chance to wipe the slate clean and start anew. Please meet me at the Dagger tomorrow evening for dinner and drinks on me.

Glenn

It was a calculated risk. Worst case, he'd actually have to talk with his unofficial brother-in-law. The things Glenn Burnie did for Myrken Wood.

Kals had taken no small amount of satisfaction giving Mary a rather rude, crude, and utterly excessive description of what Glenn could do with the message he'd wanted delivered. Oh, he'd been as polite as he could to the woman doing her job, but he'd also informed her quite strongly that she should relay it all in as loud and angry a way as she could manage.

When the letter came for him instead he'd debated just burning it. He instead settled on at least showing up to quite literally put the food and drinks on Glenn, just to make himself feel better. It would also be an excellent chance to remind Glenn of his ultimatum for ever having any sort of interaction with Kals or the rest of his family. If he was lucky he could do it without actually having to talk with the idiot who thought he was his brother-in-law. The things he did for family.

He made for the Dagger the next evening, telling himself it was more because he had a room there than anything else, and he was tired. It would be a simple matter to simply stop downstairs and deliver his response before going to kick his boots off. Things can never be simple, though.

He'd been on his way up the steps to the Dagger's porch when a pain had exploded in his lower left back; hot, sharp, and disabling. A grunt escaped his lips and the trader had dropped to his knees when the sudden force pushed at him. He'd thought he'd managed to pull something until he felt warmth running past his waste and down his leg. He'd reached back with a gloved hand and it came forward dark. He'd tried to twist to see what had happened, but it just flared the pain and he let out loud cry of pain and plea for help before just leaning forward into the door frame of the Dagger. He could cling to that and try not to move at least until he passed out.

There was a cry.

Glenn Burnie had made it to the Dagger safely. Yes, he flanked around the lake and wore certain hidden bits of armor. Yes, he had been wildly careful and moved in a slightly unpredictable way. Yes, he had run a good part of it: demeaning, perhaps, but there was no arrow sticking through him. The armor was of two uses. If Kals had made it safely, giant, highly visible target that he was, it might have prevented choking or whatever else the large man might have tried to do to him. He had gone in through the back door and was sitting at the bar when the cry was heard.

All it took was a look out the window to see what had happened. Well, that was that then. A deep breath and then with a shout, Glenn began to mobilize the waitstaff, mostly female for what it was worth, to get some makeshift shelter together and to help him get the poor, bleeding man to the Remedium. Kals wasn't going to die on his watch. Only the best and bravest of care for his erstwhile brother.

Kals used to be a trader, then he took an arrow to the back.

If Kals had sense outside the fact there was something in his back and he was losing quite a bit of blood he might decide Glenn had set him up. But he also might be assuming that right now because the pain was not letting him think clearly enough about the intentions of the son of a bitch.

To hell with it, it didn't matter. He heard sounds from inside and then people showed up in numbers. A force of barmaids making him move and shift, trying to drag his large body to its feet to get him to stagger to the Rememdium. Something utterly unappealing with how much every little twist of his back made him want to just collapse back down to the ground. But all the little hands stopped that, and so he forced himself to stand. Was there cover? He had no idea, his eyes were clamped shut and he focused on taking one step after another until someone finally let him lie face down on something. Thank Sa, they finally stopped 'encouraging' him to keep going.

His last really clear thought was that he wished he weighed less.

Back in town, Rhaena Olwak gasped and dropped the pile of ribbons she had been holding, twisting and sewing into decorations. All thoughts of such festivities went out of her mind and after a moment she broke into motion, summoning her carriage, sending one guard off with a message at the same time.

It wouldn't be long at all before the carriage was moving, carrying the veiled woman towards the Rememdium. How fast her messenger reached Kacela, though, depended entirely on how easy the wild woman was to find tonight. One could only hope that she wasn't hunting.

It was a damn good thing that the messenger was quick witted and that no one had sent one of those bloody notes. They were impossible to figure out, and even as it was Kacela had difficulty wrapping her mind around what she was being told.

She had been found returning from town, having been out to sell the meat and hides from the fruit of her hunting, and was surprised when the young man came running up to her. It should have been apparent that she was an easy person to find when she wasn't actively trying to hide, but it took her a few minutes to figure out why he wanted to talk to her and what it all was about. There were still further rounds of questions as she tried to figure out what a Rememdium was, her mind already thick with thoughts from the moment that she was told that Kals was hurt. Finally the message was made clear, directions were given and the wild woman would be shoving her bow and quiver of arrows at the poor messenger, promising there would be coins if he could get it back to the dagger for her. She'd be no good to Kals if she arrived at the rememdium in her other form, but carrying things would just slow her down. There'd be no need for arrows once she got her hands on whoever had harmed him.

If the messenger had ever heard any rumours about what Kacela was he certainly would be considering their truth, for the speed that Kacela ran towards the Rememdium at was far greater than anything that a human being could have accomplished.

Lucas was noticing a trend in his patients. Quite a few people tended to be sprouting small trees from various points on their body. And as of yet they all seemed to be men. He wasn't the most experienced doctor in the world, but he had some suspicions starting to form in his mind. More significantly, he was growing tired of having to pull arrows out of men and sew them back up again before the bled out or got an infection.

This was the situation he'd be in whenever Rhaena or Kacela arrived. The would have been removed, and he'd be squirreled away in Kals's room cleaning the wound and working on closing it. The trader was for the most part unconscious, or so close to the state he may as well be while the doctor worked, behind over the prone form.
