The first experiment had, disappointingly enough, been a failure.

It was the pitch black of night that a long figure emerged from the stables, the reins of a black horse held easily in his grip. The cold drizzle did nothing to improve his mood; into the forest the pair went, their departure noted by none.

A last shimmer of magic; leather wing was extended, inky black as the night around him; no more would the man be forced to be bitter cold; at least, for now.

My master, the beast muttered, spines clicking together as the serpintine form wrapped about the man. Kill? Destroy? Easy, it would be, for thou and I...

"Peace," the man replied amiably. A hand lifted to stroke the ebon scales, drawing a shiver of pleasure from the dragon, eyes lidding as it lowered it's head.

"But yes. Kill. Feed, stretch your wings. And bring me back a present. I'm through with this one."

Acid drool spattered on the ground beside the man; wings snap outwards; with a great push of limbs the dragon soars upwards, wheeling, turning, to disappear from sight with a shimmer of magic.

And, below, the man smiles, before hurrying to get out of the cold and rain.
