Meanwhile, in the mountains

Jarod stood in the mountains, over looking the tunnel that Dali had left. He could taste it on his tongue, in the air. The same smell that his dear friend had. It was comforting. He knew Catch was looking for something, a part of him. The moon would look down on it once upon a time, while it was under her twin.

Now her twin was buried under the ground, eye stricken blind. His white eyes scanned it. Yes, her twin, it was down there somewhere, but it could not see the Catchpart! He lifted a rock and hurled it into the deep hole, and screamed at it. Words that could not be repeated, should not be repeated by human tongue. Fists clinched, and he raged.

Why would someone steal some part of his friend? Why would they blind the moon twin? Evil! They must be evil! This whole land was evil! So many that wanted to hurt Catch. They didn't see how beautiful Catch was. They could not see his spirit, they could only see his shell. Well. Their shells must be blinding them!

They were blind like the moon twin! That was it! He laughed then. Poor people. They didn't know. Like his old tribe, they were all blind to the wonders of the Other World, and Catch's world.

Him-and-That. He had shown him so much. Changed him for the better. He shut him off to the other world, just like Lamai had said he would. He fixed him, made him better. Now.. he had to help Him-and-That. Had to. He knew summonings. He had used them for spirits once. Now.. he needed to use them for something Else. Yes. Him-and-That's Else.

So he walked the circle of the pit in the ground, the one that led back to that poisoned lake. He walked, his feet leaving behind not foot prints, but patterns. They seemed to shift and morph on their own, constantly changing and writhing like maggots and worms in the ground.

Jarod didn't just walk. He skipped. Skipped like a child playing a game. Because, this would be the grandest game of all! Him-and-That would have friends finally. More than just Wolfwoman, Scaleface and Jarod.

He skipped to the point from which he started, and the writhing mass of maggots and bloodworms shaping their runes in the ground, before the bright flare, and the Light that was All-Colors-And-None filled the center of the hole left behind by the dragoness.

In the middle of the light, in the middle of the hole an Eye opened, full of blood and black, looking up into the night sky....
