Madison.
It was not her true name, but it was the name she had been given -- the name the Master-Creator had bestowed upon her when the act of creation had been completed. It was the name that when called, she answered. She was instantly awake and aware; she opened her end of the link and responded, and her transmission bore tones of obedience and respect.
My Master, I await your commands.
Madison, my loyal servant. Arise, for your time has come.
There was a moment of disbelief followed by a blaze of joy. Could the words echoing through her mind be true? But for her to be activated, for her to be unleashed...
Madison was horribly afraid to ask, but the question overwhelmed her fear, bubbled past her mind's lips and transmitted to the Master-Creator.
My Master, what news of Archimedes' exploits?
You already know.
She knew this to be truth; she had not needed to ask, but the need for confirmation had been great. Madison had felt Archimedes' presence abruptly wink out of existence, signaling his defeat -- and her arrival. The humans, however, had not destroyed Archimedes totally but had indeed broken his physical anchor to this realm. While her brother -- if they could rightly be called a family -- had bickered with her constantly, they had worked together best, had complemented one another with their powers and abilities. Now ... now Archimedes could not return for some millennia. The loss of him saddened and elated her all at once.
Yes, my Master. I do. Please forgive my curiosity.
There is no need for an apology, Madison. Hearken unto me, however, for I have already prepared your first task.
And as Madison listened to the Master-Creator's instructions, her solid green eyes began emanating a sickly light.
