"Never was I hiding, Constable. If I had been hiding, neither yourself nor your friend would e'er have found me. Think on it. You know that to be true." He flexed his remaining hand. Looked at the remaining stump of his other. Lips would press against one another, and then he would turn to look out the nearby window. His boots still sat upon a nearby chair. Had he been waiting, then?

Apparently he had had issues with dressing himself with only one hand. The buttons that ran up the side of his torso were only half done. His belt not even on, instead it sat looped around itself upon the bed. The sabre he had proudly carried rested quietly in the sheath. "Third time, Constable, I have awoken from a dream in a pool of blood that may have been my own. May, or may not have. I would like this to stop, to tell the truth." Aeryn turned away from the window and glanced towards Lentham. "Probably would have been better, if stabbed me through the middle you did. Easier. A corpse is a corpse, a dead thing. A man alive is another thing, even if he goes to his fate with eyes open and willing."

A vague motion towards the sword, which saw one of the waiting elves step forward and pick the weapon (belt and all) from the bed. "I do be sending that to Lord al`Nerun, the man who that do truly belong to. I would only ask that you do no impede that." He hoped the other made no move for the sword. As it was, he wasn't sure what the elf that now held it would do. "Shiara. A meal, perhaps, before we do depart."

"If you do not mind, Constable. I would prefer to have a biscuit of mian in my belly if we are to trek back to Myrken. You look like you would do with the same, if I do be saying." Aeryn looked at Lentham a moment, those dark eyes of his almost impenetrable. But perhaps, for the first time Constable, you would see no defiance in them.

Stabbing someone you hated in a dream was therapeutic. One of the lessons of that twisted wilderness. Doubly true if your victim bore the mark of that slash in the waking world. McCoy lost his life. Karolinger has lost part of his life, part of himself. A start. No need to go for that sword, not if Aeryn was willing to go on his own. Preferable, that. What the boy wanted. What Calomel wanted. Truly, what Lentham wanted as well.

Hnnf. Hiding. Lots of ways to hide. Not always about being found. Sometimes, it's about being safe. Seems like the Ex-Marshall was going to man up about it now though. Admirable enough. Earned him some latitude, though not trust. He remembered what happened to Bloodmoon. Never trust.

"Pride. Pride and honor, Karolinger. You swear on your name that you'll come with me, all the way to Calomel, and we'll see that sword to its proper destination." A pause. Aeryn's pride was well known. It had driven Helstone from power back at Haberdasher's Row, hadn't it? His honor, however? That Lentham was not sure of. "Swear me that and we'll eat before leaving."

As for the sword, it didn't matter if Constable Lentham tried to stop it or not. It had been delivered unto the elves, and payment had been made for it to be transfered to the one that it truly belonged too. That one would probably never use it, if the tales Aeryn had heard were even slightly true. But that didn't really matter either. Lentham was just now asking him an interesting question. And Aeryn was staring out of the window and gazing at something as he considered it.

"Swear on my name, Constable? Fuck that. My name is ash, you and I know this as well as any other." Food was brought, food for the trail, made for those who would make a journey through the rough wilderness of the Myrken forests. Eggs and rashers of bacon, some bread to sop up the juices. A jug of wine to wash it all down with. It was more than Aeryn himself would have asked for, but he would eat it just the same.

"What about on the soul of Myrken, Constable. That, there, do be something that you and I seem to both care about... One way or another." The former Marshal glanced over his shoulder, eyebrows arching as he looked at the other man. Between them was the table of food and naught else. Even the Elves had left the duo to their discussion. "Your friend can eat as well, if you care to invite him. Would no seem fair to deny him such a meal before leaving. I do understand that he has come to enjoy the food that the elves like to prepare for their guests."

A slight smile upon the face of the mercenary, and a slight motion towards the platters that sat betwixt them.

Nic was sent for. No reason why he couldn't partake. Stuck-up bastard probably had breakfast already though, probably wouldn't mind having another. Wasn't that he had taken to the elves' food. Was just that he hadn't taken to Myrken at all. This was an improvement to him. Not too surprising, that. Still, he'd been something of a partner. No reason for him not to have one last meal before they go.

What's this, then? "Soul of Myrken, Karolinger? Reckon that the soul of Myrken is going to be fine one way or another. Bigger than any of us, probably bigger than all of us. Myrken gives and it takes away." It was the story of his life. Probably made for a chpter in Aeryn's story too. "If that's the best you can do, we'll take it though." A pause, even as Nicephorus arrived. A nod to the man. Nothing more. "Eat up. We'll be on the road soon."

"Bigger than either of us. True, yes? And yes, eat. Not the best I can do, though. But for you, I will have to do." A slight smile, he was making some effort to consume a slice of meat set upon a piece of bread with just his one hand. He knew how to use just one hand in a situation, but you usually had the other just in case. Not now... not now.

"Who says that we will be taking the road? There are quicker ways to get back to the town, Constable. If you do be willing to make use of the magic pathways they say criss-cross the province." He arched one of his eyebrows, casting a look towards Nic and Lent. He took a meaningful bite of his breakfast.

Nicephorus was not particularly surprised. Elves and magic. No, he was more surprised by the Marshall and his missing hand. He had heard whispers but it was so strange to see it in person. If someone had been with him then, would he had seen the hand simply disappear? Unnerving. Just what he expected from this god-forsaken land. For now, he dove into what would likely be his last good meal in a long while.

Lentham grunted with a nod. "If I'm going to believe you at all, why not believe all the way. Alright Karolinger. We'll take that magic road. Rather not spend more time traveling with you than necessary. Think you understand that. Figure the feeling's mutual, no? We eat and then we go, then?"

"You think you know me, Lentham. You do be wrong. I think I would enjoy a trip with you. Single minded determination. I may no like Cinnabar, or most of you Constables, but I do respect that. As long as they do no be trying to kill me." A mouthful of food would forestall anything else out of the young ex-Marshal. He wasn't too sure what that last piece of... was it a vegetable? Well, whatever it was, it was tasty. He felt energised. Of course, that could have just been because he'd spent the last few days abed. Being awake was almost enough to keep him jumping.

"Well. Come on, Constable. Soldier. Let's go to be making Cinnabar's day, so he can be thinking he'll ever get around to hanging me." There was a wink here, the man as flippant as ever. As he rose, one of the few elven warriors that lingered in the Enclave rose as well. A glance to the trio.

"Follow me, gentlemen. I will take you to the portal room. It will take you to just outside of town, just to the south, just beyond... What did you call it, Fort Sumpter?" Aeryn nodded his head slightly at this, then glanced towards the Constable. He was ready, if the other two were.

Mon Feb 11, 2008 1:20 pm

"Can't say that was all that pleasant." Wasn't that bad, not really. No one had lost their lunch. Would have been a good joke by Aeryn and the elves though. Give them a great meal and then make them lose it. No. Didn't happen. Wouldn't want to do it everyday though. Downright unsettling when you think about it.

Lentham glanced over to the ex-Marshall's hand, or his lack of a hand. He had gone rather easily after the dream. Maybe he could work with him SOMEWHAT. "Going to give you an option now. You can stay here under guard, at least until Cinnabar says otherwise, or you can come back with me and I'll take you right to the Governor." In other words, Aeryn Karolinger. You didn't have to immediately return to MyrkenTown in chains. It was the nicest thing the Constable would do for you. What would it be?

Mon Feb 11, 2008 4:48 pm

"If there do be anything I wish, Constable, other than being left alone of course." There was a wry grin for that comment, a roll of the shoulders as well. No matter what he did, no matter the outcome or the situation, he would never be just left alone. He had thrust himself upon the stage of Myrken, and stuck out like a sore thumb with a wart at the end. No matter what he would do, he would always be... visible. Even if he was tucked away in some corner or chained up in some jail. "Is to see Agnieszka once again. She and I, we do have things to speak about. Besides, I have a promise to keep to her." A glance towards the Constable.

"I keep my promises, Constable, whatever other madness I do like to tag a hold of. You tell Cinnabar that. I did promise him that all my actions did be for the betterment of Myrken. Even resigning." Another glance sideways. "If I were to have a choice, I would prefer to stay here. A cell is no my idea of a joyful place to see her. Afterwards. Whatever you decide." Dark eyes turned to the Constable and his companion. "Or you can throw me in the gaol. Whatever fits."

There was some question about this, then. By all rights, Karolinger ought to be brought back in chains. Still full of himself, even if 'himself' was less a hand. He had come along, didn't hide behind the elves. Could have, could have made trouble for them, for all of Myrken, maybe. Something to that. How much? Not much. Not enough to forgive, not enough to think more of him. "You stay here, under guard, until Calomel says differently." Enough to grant him this, though.

But if the ex-Marshall were to see this as a sign of weakness. But if he were to run.

Lentham would go out once more, would hunt him to the end of the world and would kill him or die trying.

"Come on, Nic. We're going home." And the Constable turned away and headed for the stables.
