A pad of leather, laid carefully on the floor.
A candle of red, lit and placed with care.
A smoking block of coal, atop a pretty dish, sprinkled with amber and cedar
A tiny ring, carved of amber, one of jade, set atop a silken pillow
A glass of wine, glittering in the candle glow
A small girl, perhaps 5 years old, her platinum curls bouncing gently as she knelt upon the leather. Tiny fingers would sprinkle more incense atop the glowing coal before she took the smallest sip of the wine. Her soft hands would meet and her fingers would steeple, as she closed her eyes in prayer.
"As night is born, so shall I sleep
In perfect dreams will I rest deep
His loving gaze will mind my way
To bring me safe to breaking day
His will be done, in all I do
"Someday I will return to you"
His name be praised"
"His name be praised." A voice echos behind the girl. A tall woman, pale and slender. One hand reaches down to help draw the girl from the floor. "Now blow out the candle, Gale. Time for bed."
"Yes Mama."
Tiny lips pursed and blew out the flame as she turned on her small bare feet and ran to her mother to be gathered into a loving hug. The slim creature scooped her up and held her close, the girls curls brushing against her cheek. Her own crimson locks flowed around a slim and tall form, pale flesh and hawkish features. She smiled to the little girl, and kissed her cheek as she tucked her into the small bed near her own.
She knelt then before the altar herself, relighting the candle and beginning her own prayers. Amethyst eyes sparkled in the candle light, reflected in the silver blade in her hands. The knife flashed as the wound was made and fresh blood spilled atop the burning coal.
