Under the shadow of night, a rider emerged from the gates of Amesbury--the estate house granted to the Minister of Myrken Wood by the King Chedwry II of Trae Kelsa. The man carried with him a letter--as he had many times before--destined for the King himself. The letter was sealed with the wax sigil of the Minister and the rider was given strict instructions not to stop riding until reaching Xanth Grange, where he would then take up a new horse and again not stop riding until reaching the Hawkesbury estate and then after swapping horses again, to not stop until he reached Razasan.
When the messenger finally arrived the letter would be delivered unto the Lord High Steward, who would then read the letter and then deliver it unto His Majesty. These are the words that they would read...
To His Royal Highness Chedwry, by the grace of the One True God, King of Trae Kelsa; from Aldwin Meriwether Gilby, 3rd Baron Hawkesbury, 1st Baron Amesbury, Minister of Myrken Wood - A greeting of most bounden fidelity and a well-wishing of most sincere affection.
It is with the gravest of hearts, yet hastened of hand, that I write to you this day, my Liege. There is great unrest afoot in the North of your glorious Kingdom. As you well know, I have oft penned of the troubles of Myrken Wood--likely relaying tales scant believed in the noble halls and homes of the Razasani aristocracy. But I urge you, most venerable King, pray take the words that follow with the utmost gravity, fore to do otherwise could be all the more troublesome indeed.
There has yet again been a coup d'état at the highest level of the Myrken Wood Council. Altias Bromn, son of the great and beloved Gorthias Bromn, Duke of Xanth Grange, has been deposed of his gubernatorial appointment. The position has resultantly been seized by the head of the local constabulary, one Cinnabar Calomel. Brief investigation into the origins of the man prior to his station yielded little other than his recent acquisition of lands, likely in order to raise his standing with the local aristocracy.
This, while greatly concerning, is but a small piece of your servant’s concern. Larger distress resides with your lands of Thessilane overseen by Duke Burel Tassnehof. While I have little knowledge of the goings-on within your lands to the east of Myrken Wood, the rumors that have come across the borders are that of secession. It appears that our good Duke Tassenhof has put forth a decree announcing Thessilane’s independence from your great Kingdom, my Liege. Sadly, I know naught more at this time, yet felt so entirely compelled to report such rumors of treason, that hesitation seemed a risk too great.
I will continue to gather more information regarding both situations and shall relay with naught but haste anything gleaned. Should Your Majesty require my services to parley with the local Lords in Myken Wood, Amasynia, Derry, Heath, Xanth Grange, Thessilane, &c. so that they be made aware of the situation, please do not hesitate to request as such. I remain your most dedicated servant.
Rest assured that it is well understood by my person that peaceful resolution is preferred, but that it is well understood that the preservation of the Kingdom is paramount. Also, as an assurance to Your Majesty, I am certain that the hearts of the citizenry of the Amasynian Provincial Region reside with His Highness still and not with the foolhardy who so nonsensically squabbling for power.
I await your request.
Done by my hand this Eighth of September, Anno Regalis Two Hundred and Seven.
The actions to follow would undoubtedly be interesting.
