Dawn tinged the skies before gauze and lace left the rock that she had perched upon all night. He had left her swimming in memories; she hoped he would receive the sleep that would be foreign to her, now.
The owls beat their wings against the house that she had Warded from evil in the middle of a forest that had seen too much demonic taint.
The bells of the steeple rang over and over in her mind in time with her heartbeat; every time a bell rang, someone died.
The church that was not a church.
The bowels of a sacred place that broke *her*.
Tag's blood pooled at her feet, spilled by the hand of his brother.
David lay dead, cut open by her own hand in order to purify him of the evil that he contained. It had destroyed the church; she didn't remember getting out. Kaz must of have carried her.
Oh, but the horror didn't stop there.
Tag dead, David dead, Ember dead -- and in her head like a nagging voice of doom informing her of the inevitable consequences of one night of comfort.
The stress of continued healing left her for dead near the edges of a different, tainted lake. Her adopted brother, her savior. Six months of bed rest.
Rachael.
Death.
