Somewhere admist the trees, deep in the heart of the forest, a copse of trees, thick, brandished, paused, sits quietly. -- Yet one of their brethren, one of their family is dead.

--

Once, mighty, proud, rising tall, it is no more, hewn in half, it's top gone, the trunk the only thing remaining. It was not a clean break, nor a clean axing, no -- something odd about intently odd -- this was no shearing. It was one tree, and one alone. It's neck, sticks out at odd angles, bark and internal wood structure perched outwards, as if it'd been snapped. Though, the faint tips, blackened, scent of pine, and deciduous all lumped together. Scattered bits of pulp lay strewn around it's base, lichen and leaves alike ringed outwards, and left nothing at the base of the stump by dirt. Dried bits of ash, strewn, faintly, feathering to the base. How it'd happened is anyone's guess, in all honest. But there is some tinge in the air, anger, perhaps? That veritable metallic tang that hung in the mouth pervaded, and then like a drifting wind, was gone.

Causality, casualness, and the mighty oak is gone, though the smell of cedar remains oddly enough. A beautiful forest, yet -- even with timber, and ash -- no fire sprang near the tree, at all.
