Visit to the Toy Shoppe

It had been a few days since Quincy extended her invitation to dinner and she could only imagine that the woman was rather busy with things around her home and sitting with her sister, whom she had heard was in the infirmary. The Angelic Elf was left waiting for news about a tour of possible available properties she could rent from Treadwell, but so far little news came of that. He had tried to get Glenn, the mapmaker to help, but the man had shouted and given a fairly rude response about her 'bloody well waiting'.

Deciding to just not wait, she opted to search on her own. Surely she could find a decent house to rent, maybe buy, in the more well-to-do section of town where all the rich folk live. Tready had mentioned it wasn't easy to live around there. Already, she wasn't sure what to think of the place, wondering if she'd even fit in around here. Most people seemed nice, but then again, she hasn't met everyone either. Glenn hadn't really given her a good first impression of himself.

Her day was spent mostly outside, in the cold. Sitting astride that handsome white pegasus stallion of hers, Angelis, the two had ventured into town. It couldn't hurt to look right? What harm could it do? It wasn't that she was impatient, quite the contrary; Elves were known for their patience, not known to rush. However, she didn't want to stay in the inn all of the time.

Angelis' bells dangling off of his reins chimed with his every step as the pair moved through the streets. The pegasi's white coat blended in perfectly with the wintry landscape and so too did the Elven woman who was garbed in white leather with a light blue blouse worn under her bodice. Some might think her an 'Ice Princess', but no one around here knew that she was indeed a Princess. Keeping her royal linage a secret was her best option and she doubted they needed another ruler around here anyways right now. Not that anyone would know her family, but if anyone found out she was royalty, who knew what would happen.

She wasn't sure what houses were for rent or even for sale, but she was here in town, so she might as well make the best of it. Maybe she'd make a visit to Treadwell's toy shoppe, she did promise to stop by after all. She was a woman of her word, so hunting down the toy store would be the first thing she did today. Maybe she could find some new toys for her younger kids, maybe even something for her teenage boys. Didn't seem to mind the fact that the townsfolk were watching her, she simply continued on her way, keeping Angelis to a walk.

The toy shop is, indeed, open; today, Aloisius is hard at work tidying the place and bobbing-wobbling about with a duster in hand and his great, broad belt of toymaking tools at his middle. As Lessa makes her way into the store, the toymaker waves and gives a merry, "Hullo, madam! Come by to see Mr. Treadwell today, mmph mmph?"

Her visit to Tready's toy shoppe was quite the experience. His hospitality and joviality was superb. His kindness would one day be returned. She was starting to think that perhaps she had possibly made a new friend. Glenn had even apologized recently and he was due to bring that map around anytime now. She had been a smidge nervous at first upon visiting the toy shoppe, but it soon dwindled away as the visit progressed. Unlike others who made of Tready because of his weight, she saw no need too. She couldn't help wondering how a man of his girth defended himself if the need arose though. After sharing a lovely snack with him and talking there before his hearth, she left him to his slumber.

Back at the inn, she found her own bed and snoozed until around nine in the morning. Bathing and dressing, she opted to eat downstairs and wait for a special delivery. She only had to wait until about noon. A delivery boy and his friend brought in something fairly large and wrapped up in colorful paper with a huge ribbon on it. The dollhouse she had bought last night at Tready's arrived around noon! Directing the boys to her room, she bade them to set it carefully down on a table she'd prepared just for the doll-house. Once they had, she smiled and gave each a few shillings for their trouble.

Over the last few days, things had gone relatively well. That was until last night. The scaled draconic shadow creatures came back and attacked her again. Sustaining only two broken ribs and another or two cracked ones, plus plenty of bruising and a few cuts and scrapes, she was otherwise fine. Come the next evening, she paid Tready another visit after laying in some false trails for the creatures, though she was sure they would track her scent for awhile. At least until they got to a stream she waded through for a while before emerging back onto dry land and sought out a route to town and eventually to Tready's shop.

The last few days have been quite interesting. Her visits to Tready's toy shoppe have proven to be quite enjoyable. What could keep a skinny lady like her going back to the toy shoppe nearly every night? Simple. Tready's hospitality was superb and she felt she had made a friend of the man whose girth continued to amaze her. In truth, he's the largest man she's ever seen girth wise, but his joviality was infectious. For those who didn't know him so well, he was a fairly fun guy to be around. Course she didn't know him as well as others did, but from what she's been able to discern for herself, the Lord Tubbius was a proud man, one who took pride in his work, and one whom enjoyed life.

One evening, she made the poor man faint! How? She had simply told him that she had -seven- children. Would that make everyone around here faint? Hopefully not. After waking the large man up, she assured him she had indeed said seven and he just grinned, if memory served. Slowly, she was getting to know him, and so far, he knew more about her than anyone else did so far.

The past couple of evenings have been filled with lots of sneezing, oodles of honking as Tready blew his large snoz into hankies, and even quite a few hiccups! There were a couple mishaps involving the jolly old guy, but she wouldn't speak of those to anyone, because both of those mishaps would greatly embarrass the man if word got out about them. Could you just imagine how embarrassed he'd be if one were to learn that he had tripped over his robes one evening while coming to the door of his toy shop to let her in? Or if one learned that he slipped while getting out of his tub? Oh..she could just imagine the man being teased and tormented to no end, so she wasn't going to speak of the shop shaking from the large man falling Onto his bathroom floor!

Forced to hide her eyes even as she closed them, she had to pry the restroom door open to be sure he was okay. She'd been worried that he might have whacked his head on the tub or floor. Once he assured her that he was okay, she'd returned to her rocker near the hearth to wait for him.

The previous evening, just last night, found the Lord Tubbius suffering from a wicked cold he'd caught and she had fixed him some chamomile tea for his nausea. She had even got him to play a game of checkers! Tired as he was though, she won, but she suspected a rematch would soon be wanted. She wouldn't mind though, she'd found it fun just to play a board game with someone. She usually played with her kids, and they were always wanting rematches.

The fire in the hearth had been doused, the floors swept up, dishes washed and kitchen cleaned before she and Seth, who had dropped by to pay Tready a visit, left the toy shop for the evening. Would she be around the toy shop the next day? You bet she would! What were people saying about her trips to the toy shop? Didn't know and didn't really care what they might think. Would tomorrow's adventures prove just as entertaining as they so far had? She didn't doubt it and could guarantee that they would be memorable.

Her visits to the toy shoppe had become rather frequent. Almost every night she was there and one certainly had to be wondering what she and the Tubbian were up too. Little did anyone know that she had become a teacher of sorts to the roly-poly elder. What could she be teaching him though? Well, that was between the two of them and whatever she was teaching him, she knew it would be beneficial to those he helped in the future.

Hadn't expected that she would become a teacher to her new friend, but she didn't mind in the least. The other night was quite interesting as he had asked a favor of her and she had gladly consented once she had known the nature of the request. Telling him some surprising news, she was smiling at the look of awe upon his bejowled visage. He was a quick learner and she was amazed that he was learning what she was teaching him so fast.

Would she be at the toy shoppe tonight? Most likely so. She was finding that he reminded her of her grandpa, though her grandpa was no where near as obese as Alousius Treadwell.
