I, CORIOLANUS HELSTONE, barrister, the remaining member of the Myrken Wood Judiciary Council, being of sound body and mind, do hereby affirm this day that I have inexorable proof:

That SUEDE ROSCHEN, Councilor of Agriculture, has been taken and held by our drow enemy in the Underdark;

That KERRAK AL'NERUN, Councilor of Defence and Civil Security, has turned traitor to the people he once swore to protect, and burned the Meetinghouse to the ground last week, murdering the men stationed there, and has been replaced in his position by ERIKS DEMORD SLEIPNER, and that AERYN KAROLINGER has been appointed Captain of the Brotherhood of Janeiro;

That GISCARD GUILLAUME, interim Governor, has been stricken with coma and has been unable to complete his duties.

Therefore, as senior Councilor and the only one left unstained and uncompromised and completely knowledgeable about the current situation, I am hereby accepting the position of Governor, as prescribed by fate, common sense, and legal documents signed by Councilor Guillaume this year, and calling for an Election to be held shortly to fill the following vacancies:

-- Agriculture, on a temporary basis, until it can be ascertained whether Mr. Roschen willingly collaborated with the drow or not;
-- Administrative Sanctions, my former position;
-- Trade and Commerce, on a temporary basis, until it can be ascertained whether the lord Lothbury will recover from his illness.

As always, I remain forever committed to the welfare, well-being, and victory of Myrken Wood, and do sign myself your servant, this day, the eighth of November,

Concerning: Elections

A splendid decision. But! A Council cannot exist as one sole individual. Altias Bromn is rumored alive, and I am here. Now, as we discussed earlier, I wholeheartedly put myself at Myrken Wood's use as Councilor of Administrative Sanctions. . . if you care to fill that spot already and skip something of a vote, so that two heads might truly be better than one.

Post Script: The Council is in possession of my toy store AND home by the lake. This needs to be remedied whether I am elected to Council again or not.

Rest assured, though, that come the morning of the ninth, Treadwell will be making all due haste toward Westenford on his newly hastened, newly shod Arnold the horse. He has money to collect, palms to grease, and an election to the post of Councilor of Administrative Sanctions to win.

He can't help thinking, though, of one little fact.

If that blasted little fairy hadn't done anything to him, he wouldn't have to be involved in this election in the first place!

Right next to one of the posted notices, in clear view, a rather ratty old parchment - contents erased, and re-erased - made perfect for viewing:

The Meetinghouse is dust; long live the Meetinghouse.

Few knew that Helstone owned that small, defunct, dark house on Haberdashers' Row; it's been spiffed up over the past two weeks, with its windows polished and its doors refixed -- and today, in concert with the criers, a plaque of burnished bronze, fished from the ruins of the old building, is hung beside the door.

Meetinghouse, it says.

And this is how it is announced; also, criers and messengers announce it: announce your candidacy to the scribe at the temporary Meetinghouse -- for it was just a building, see, and loyalty to Myrken Wood is a state of mind and no one can take that away, yes? -- and have it seconded for your name to be placed on the ballot.

"May the best man win," they say in the taverns; there is still a little hope left, that there may be a politician or two out there with their eye on Myrken Wood, and not on the Councilor's salary.

The Councilor's salary, which is very nice indeed.

And one by one, they begin to arrive in their drudgeries and fineries both, to put their nominations in...
