Once again, the landowners come to Myrken Wood to cast their votes in the Council election.

They make a day of it, really: passing by the Meetinghouse with its population of aides and guards to make their vote, they then retire to the teahouses and the restaurants in their finery.

Election days are always good for Myrkentown merchants.

Election Rules:

1) All players registered on the forums may vote. One vote per player; if you have numerous character accounts, you still may only vote once. Please vote not as your 'normal' characters would, but in the guise of a voter; see below.
2) Choose one of two: Aldred or Ikari.
3) The election is open for one week. No votes will be taken after this poll closes.

Most of Broken Dagger's player characters would not be eligible for voting, so put yourself in the brain of one of the voters before you go hit the tickyboxes -- that's who you will be playing for these few seconds. According to the wiki, voters are "male, of sound mind, in good standing amongst his peers, and of noble birth," although "it is an unspoken rule that this final requirement may be waived in the cases of landowners and the independently wealthy."

Biographies of the candidates:

Aston Jylan Aldred, age 42: Aston Jylan Aldred, heir to the Aldred Estates, which lie some leagues away to the north and west of Myrkentown proper and an afternoon's ride north of Lothbury, is not a newcomer to the Myrken Wood nobility but of recent has not played an active role in it, either. Born in March of AR 164, the second son of the very wealthy Lord Eynon Iohannes Aldred, Aston was named the official heir to the Aldred Estates when Lord Aldred's firstborn son, Madoc Deykin, was in AR 193 killed at age thirty-three in an eventing accident, which occurred during the show jumping phase; and while at first reluctant due to grief, Aston quickly came to terms with his brother's death and, as per his father's wishes, began assisting in the administrative aspects of the Estates as well as its sundry everyday mundanities. And in February of AR 204, Aston became the Lord of the Aldred Estates when Eynon stepped down to enjoy the remaining years of his life, a decision spurred by having been diagnosed with a failing heart. Eynon lives to this day, and is attended by Aston personally, as well as a retinue of servants and his own physician.

In June of AR 206, however, Eynon urged Aston to become involved in the government of the province itself, citing his distrust of the foreigners on the Judiciary Council -- a distrust apparently warranted, as evidenced by the violent madness of the Thessilanean Captain Kerrak al'Nerun and, more recently, the complete disappearance of his successor, General Sleipner from the Far North, both of whom (in Eynon's opinion) had been foolishly entrusted with the position of Councilor of Defence and Civil Security. Eynon felt it was time a man of Myrken Wood took hold of his country's security; Aston agreed, and after spending some months refreshing the finer points of his martial education -- training and knowledge ingrained in him during a six-year term as a ward in the Amasynian capital -- chose to nominate himself in the running election.

Natsuno Ikari, age 134: Deep military background, elven, former soldier, current occupation as a bard, dragon knight, elven, practical knowledge of all forms of weapondry, elven, very useful with many types of said weapondry, elven, well read and very knowledgible, elven, steeped in magical background, moderate mage abilities, tactical and general knowledge, elven.

History: Once a low ranking member of a group of Dragon Knights (Legend of Dragoon Style knights), he has recently assailed to even higher ranks, gaining himself even higher powers, and a commanding respect from the reptilian kind. Although very compliant, he has a gruff and commanding presence when seen in full form (not to mention he is an elf). He has been living in and around Myrkenwood for some time now, and has come to a greater understanding of how the town works.

Well, I can speak to my vote. I voted as if I were Hawkesbury...which means, I voted on racial lines alone.

What can I say...Hawkesbury's a horrible person.

(I also didn't vote for women in the past because Hawkesbury would be disgusted by the sheer fact that women were nominated in the first place).

Yes, that's what this election is: an IC election where we're all playing Myrken Wood voters, who are necessarily:

a) male,
b) the nobility, or
c) landowners of considerable status.

Some of us already have characters like this -- for example, I voted as Helstone -- and some of us pick up a "persona" simply for the elections. The button we click may not be the button we'd click as our OOC selves, but that's roleplaying!
