Notices were posted on the town's wall and in the square; there was also a notice placed on the Broken Dagger's board. There was a small, sketchy map at the bottom of each one, as the estate was a few miles southwest of the town.

Unless Guillaume called on Quincy for unexpected guard duty, she would be available through the coming days to meet with any visitors.

Glenn Burnie couldn't help but notice the posters. It was good that Darkenhold was finally hitting a point where it was looking for some people. For someone who quite often had breakfast there, the idea of a qualified cook would be welcome indeed. He was endlessly fond of the place, given that he happily goes there to train with Ariane each and every single morning.

Of course, the request for both a librarian and an assistant librarian made him laugh. They needed someone to look after less than two dozen books? Ha! Well, fine! They had high hopes there, too, didn't they? He was very glad for those hopes. Some optimism, though, but wasn't that what Darkenhold was all about, in a way?

Krynn
______

Krynn's 6" tall, mis-matched fur clad form hovered in front of the notices from Darkenhold, silvery wings a blur of motion. He was oblivious to the looks of passerbys he might recieve as silver flecked, golden eyes skimmed over the words not once, not twice but three times.

After the final read through his eyes widened as a look of shock washes over pixie features, "No Defender Against the Muffin Menace wanted!?" the words running together in a blur of shocked words. Nevermind the fact they may already have such. Because of course Muffins must be defended against, obviously. One never knew just when the Muffin Horde may strike and pillage everything. Nevermind the fact people probably think this pixie is insane!

In the blink of an eye the area Krynn had filled is empty air. In that same instance Krynn would appear outside of this so called 'Darkenhold'. Immediately he would dart through the air towards the first person he saw, "You need a Defender Against the Muffin Menace!" words running together in an excited manner as the wide eyed barbarian pixie flails his arms in the air wildly, "Only Krynn can protect you!" pausing in frantic arm motion just long enough to strike a strongman pose while tiny silver wings flutter to keep him aloft in the air.

It is another, crisp winter morning at the southwestern Keep, and Siris is making her rounds on the property in a uniform-looking coat. True to her no-nonsense demeanor, she appreciates the peace and quiet. Nothing is amiss; everything is in its proper order. There is nothing suspicious, unorthodox, alarming --

-- except, perhaps, for the sudden blur of tiny wings, ragged furs, and piping tones that speeds and flails right up to her disapproving face. Her back is suddenly very straight and stiff, and her sleekly gloved hand tightens on her leathered tome of records, which she is never seen without.

She sharply eyes the pixie through frames of spectacle-glass as it raves about the baked menace; even if she does not wanted to, she can not help but see it, for it is directly in front of her straight nose.

When it has, at least for the moment, concluded its shrill tirade, Siris replies with barely-contained tolerance.

"A menace, you say?" Her eyes narrow. The following addition drips with disbelief: "Muffin. Menace."

There is a moment's blank pause, and feeling more than a little ridiculous, she sighs and opens her book. The quill is extracted from behind her ear.

"Krynn. Is this your full name?"

Krynn
______

Krynn scowls at the sound of disbelief in the words 'Muffin. Menace' and puffs up his cheeks before taking in a deep breath, as if in preperation to go on a long tirade about the dangers of the Muffin Menace and that everyone should take afformentioned menace seriously before it is too late.

Then Farsiris asks if Krynn is his full name and for a moment the pixie seems perplexed, his train of thought interrupted. Tiny brow furrows in a moment of sheer concentration. It is such an effort that he forgets to keep his wings moving to keep him aloft and he is suddenly dropping towards the ground, like a rock.

Then, at the last possible second, silver wings become a blur of motion once more and bring him back up to spectacled eye level. Now a cheesey 'heroic' grin is flashed at the woman, "Krynn the Former Destroyer of Plants, Funny Colored Objects and Muffins Now Known Simply as Krynn the Slayer of Muffins!" again the words run together as he busts another pose, flexing uber pixie muscles.

" . . . "

The ward pauses, lingers over the prospect of staining the pages of her tome with madness, and then achingly continues to write.

For a breathless moment, she watches as it plummets dangerously toward the snow-flecked grass -- but in lieu with her regular state of fortune, it arcs right back up to her face and she is confronted with a smile of so much dashing cheese. Her mouthcorners crease a slow, studious frown at the happy, vertically-challenged barbarian.

"That is most .." she pauses, and it is clear that the following description is not quite in line with her thoughts: " .. elaborate."

Siris grudgingly turns about and starts toward the sprawling building in front of them.

"Follow."

Let another deal with this madness.

Krynn
______

Krynn furrows his brow at the studious frown aimed at him then sticks his tongue out at Farsiris in return. Take that little miss whoever you are, with the glasses, that dare frown at this ultimate hero that hovers in the air before her.

The woman says 'Follow' and tiny cheeks puff up again as another long intake of breath is taken. Perhaps the makings of another rant to be aimed at the woman's back as she walks away.

This rant doesn't come, possibly forgotten about for some unknown reason. Perhaps there was just no rant. Instead there is just, "You better be taking Krynn to someone important!" With that, silvery wings propell him through the air to follow Farsiris.

Silent Siris leads the pesky pixie across the winter-blanketed yard. There are some white-topped hedges along the walk - a small, iced fishpond off to the right, beneath a skinny sapling that has only been alive for six months. One of the house's front, double-doors is propped open for a sweeper's work.

The warmth of hearth-fires instantly soothes the marrow-deep cold of the outdoors. Such heights of oak-ribbed ceiling and winding stair must be a wonderland for a flying thing like Krynn.

Down the corridor: the paintings are landscapes, skyscapes, and warscapes. There is a decorative, eye-level round mirror with a bronze, sun-shaped frame; there is a delicate, glass globe on a shelf. Torches leak warmth and light.

Siris dutifully leads him all the way to the doors of the library, and steps inside -- introducing Krynn in a miserable tone of voice:

"Krynn, The Former Destroyer of Plants, Funny Coloured Objects, And Muffins. Now Simply Known As Krynn The Slayer of Muffins .. "

She takes a deep breath, and then concludes:

" .. requests an audience with someone important."

Krynn
______

Krynn is mercifully quiet now as he is led onwards and forwards by Farsiris. Of course, he is fairly distracted by all the sights to behold, silver flecked golden eyes wide as they oogle everything. This, of course, causes him to fall behind several times along the way.

It is with some great mental effort that he keeps himself from darting off to investigate everything up close and exploring on his own once they are inside the building. Of course, he would never admit to being awed if someone said something. No no, he was merely keeping an eye out for Muffins! One never knew where a Muffin might be hiding, waiting to strike with evil stuff such as a Muffin might strike with.

Then Fasiris is entering the library and announcing the uber pixie hero. A slight frown graces Krynn's lips as he flits by the bespectacled one, "Krynn thinks maybe someone need be fired! Krynn thinks someone does not enthusiasticly announce a true hero!" stating his opinion on the matter because obviously the opinion of one such as him should be heard! With his opinion stated he glances over his little shoulder and sticks his tongue out at Farsiris yet again.

There's a moment's consideration as he stands before the estate of Darkenhold, eyeing the demenses with weariness. The decision to seek employment had been easy enough at the time, the poster snatched from the wall and sloppily folded before being stuffed into an interior pocket of his duster. Now, he wasn't so sure. Although he could read and write well enough, he was hardly smart enough to be a librarian, let alone the librarian in charge of all the others.

"An' Ah don' even know wha'ah Reeve is."

Kaelum frowned down at the poster. If he had no idea what the position was, he was sure it was probably something behind his ken. That catagory was a short one, in truth. It served him well enough, though he doubted ''excessive drinking and womanizing" were going to be abilities the owners of Darkenhold would actively seek out.

With a shake of his head and a frown, he refolded the paper and shoved it back into his pocket. He was rewarded with the familiar crackle of crumpling parchment, but paid little heed to it. It wasn't as if the thing would matter after today, anyway.

Straightening his familiar hat and tugging his gloves, he stepped up to the door and began knocking. Maybe they would have a job for him, for all that he appeared to be a horseman, albeit a slightly exotic, marginally clean one.

She has established herself behind a broad desk overflowing with parchments; with any luck, she will find someone else to sit behind this large desk within the next couple of weeks. Siris' entry and announcement has dark eyes raised, has slender brows lifted. She'd never really go so far as to call herself important, but ..

A spectacle of fluttering wings and piping anger claims her attention. Quincy closes the book in front of her and stands up, one hand on the desk -- and one animating itself while she speaks. "Thank you, Siris.. "

When the door closes behind the ward, she gestures for the pixie to make itself comfortable. Sadly, she has not invested in any faerie-sized furniture, but surely Krynn can make do with stacks of book on the desktop, a bowl of apples, a pretty figurine of a chesspiece -- a teacup too fine for use.

"Welcome to Darken'old, Krynn, Brave Slayer o' Muffins. Sorry about Siris. She can be a li'l short-sighted at times," Quincy grins, waiting for the pixie to settle -- if it does do any sort of settling -- before Quincy reclaims her own chair. "I take it that y'saw the posts in the town. What is it that I can do for you?"

The girl doesn't exactly impose an air of importance about her, at least not when she is off of the battlefield; what she does have, however, is an attentive pair of ears for a pixie on a mission.

Siris sighs at the tongue-wagging pixie before silently ejecting herself from the library, closing the door behind her. She has a bad feeling about this...

~*~

Meanwhile, Kaelum's unimpeded journey through the walled-in yard is a delightful snow-scape of low hedges, new sapplings, and circles of iced-over goldfish ponds. Stone gargoyles, glazed with sparkling frost, seem to guard on either side of the doors to the entrance.

There is a heavy knocker on the door for use of guests, and hopefully he is patient -- for it is a long few minutes before the broad oak is disengaging from its frame.

The bespectacled ward stares up at him with a small, tight smile -- a modest creature, straight hair tied back in two places.

"Good day to you, sir," Siris politely begins, and then promptly opens her book -- for he is another, unrecognised guest. This procedure is strictly for first-timers. "Please state your full name and the nature of your visit."

Full name? That was...uncomfortable. It left larger footprints than he really cared to leaved in Myrkenwood. So far, only his first name had been needed and nobody had questioned the apparent lack of any other name. Now...? Perhaps later he could removed the entry from the book; erase proof of his existance when the time came for him to disappear. For now, however...

"Ah'm Kaelum Seamus O'Reilly," here, there's a toch of fingers to the brim of his hat, head dipped slightly in the girl's direction as a form of greeting. "An' Ah've come'ta ah'ply fer job'a some sor', if'n there's somethin' Ah've go' tha skills fer."

Simple enough, right? Perhaps a blessed introduction, considering how short it ultimately is.

Krynn will land upon the stack of books on the desk, for a moment at least, once Farsiris has departed. No worries about having no furniture for one his size. He's a barbarian, after all, and quite used to roughing it. Silver flecked, golden eyes gaze up at Quincy as she speaks, his head tilting to one side.

This one didn't look so important but she had to be, right? She had a huge desk with all kinds of stuff on it! A big grin plays across the little guy's face once its his turn to speak up, "Krynn can forgive those who are short-sighted," a little nod of his head there, "Someone as important as Krynn must have patience for lesser minds..," sagely words. At least Farsiris wasn't there to hear them!

He lifts a hand to shove a few rogue strands of silver hair out of his face, which leads to a moment of distraction. Which, in turn, leads to his noticing that chesspiece. Tiny wings lift him into the air once more and he flits over to land in front of the chesspiece, "Krynn is watching you," grim warning as he stares at the thing.

When it doesn't move, Krynn loses interest in it rather quickly. It takes him a moment, as his gaze once more wanders to other things, to get focused on the matter at hand once again. When his gaze lands on Quincy again he picks up where he left off as if nothing had happened, "Krynn saw posters, yes!"

Now a serious scowl plays over tiny features as he folds his arms across his chest in a grim manner, "Krynn saw your poster lacking in something important! Krynn saw no request for a Defender Against the Muffin Menace!" again not thinking it possible they could already have one, "Krynn is willing to commit Krynn's self to that task. It would be stupid not to take Krynn up on Krynn's generous offer. Krynn will, of course, expect all the ale Krynn can drink and foodstuffs Krynn can eat while Krynn is in your service!" He's a little guy. How much food and ale could it possibly take, right?

Siris' quill must be enchanted, as she never seems to ink the thing; script flows onto the page of her book as she writes Kaelum's information.

"Please come inside, Mister O'Reilly, and make yourself comfortable. Someone else is being interviewed at the moment, so I hope that you are not in a hurry."

She pulls the door open wide for him, welcoming him into the Keep with a small smile; if she were a more readable creature -- one may discern her relief on finding something other than a pixie in the doorway.

She leads him through the brief, carpeted foyer -- a few blades on the weapon-racks to the side -- and into the structure's main room, which may best be described as a fire hall with its warming hearth, ample seating arrangements, and decorative walls. Every few days there are some new additions, and most recently, there is an elaborate, woven tapestry depicting a heroic journey made by a man and a wolf.

The ward pauses here, as though suggesting that this room is where Kaelum can wait.

"Are you hungry? There is a breakfast prepared at this time."
